Imagine you are at work and the person next to you falls to the floor, hands clutched to his chest,
sweating and retching.
Your first response may be to call for help, but in Haiti, there is no help.
This occurs several times a week in people with SVT, a condition whereby normal impulses which regulate the heart are overwhelmed and the heart rate accelerates, often to nearly 200 beats per minute (normal is 60-100).
Both Frank and his 5-year-old son are affected.

This condition can lead to sudden death.
The cure?
Invasive surgical correction without external incision.
The obstacle?

$$$$$$
The procedures can be performed on the same island in the Dominican Republic at a tertiary cardiac hospital, CEDIMAT.
But, while Frank has a full-time job that supports his family, there are no funds for
travel and treatment.

This site was commissioned by Suzanne Bergman Wright, a physician at UAB.
I am a member at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church.
Soon after the 2007 earthquake, I joined a medical mission trip organized by Dawson Church.
We have been going to the Joy House Church in Haiti several times a year. I met Jonathan and then his dad there.
I witnessed  a tachycardia event in Johnathan.
My electronic stethoscope registered in the 170s.
After consulting cardiology I was led to Cedimat, a nonprofit cardiology hospital.
We need a total of $18,000 for the 2 of them.
The amount of the donation will be anonymous to me.
